2008 Presentation Evening

The Carey Hockey Club presentation dinner was held in the quadrangle on Saturday, August 1st.

The 2008 hockey seaon culminated in over 250 players and their families enjoying a wonderful evening celebrating the perfomances and conquests of the Carey Hockey teams from year 7 to year 12.  Congratulations to all teams, their managers, their coaches and their award winners.

A big thank-you also to the evening's sponsor,  Jellis Craig, for their generous support of  the Carey Hockey Club. 

2008 Presentation Evening

Carey students shine at Junior State Hockey Championships.

During the recent term holidays the Victorian Juntior State Hockey Championships were held at the State Netball & Hockey Centre in Parkville. Representative teams selected from the best players in each of 5 zones around Victoria competed in an round robin tournament in the Under 13, Under 14 & Under 15 age groups for both boys and girls.

Carey had the the following students competing:

    U13 girls     Sophie Taylor     (Eastern Hotshots)

    U14 girls     Sophie Hodges, Kate Lawrence, Laura Barden & Phobe Ulrick  (Eastern Hotshots)

    U15 girls      Scarlett Morwood    (Red Devils)

    U13 boys     Andrew Maxwell, Nick Reilly    (Eastern Hotshots)

    U14 boys     Sebastian Mann, Liam Harper & Will Vickers (Eastern Hotshots)

All of the above players play club hockey for Camberwell, with the exception of Scarlett who plays for Kew.

Sophie Hodges, Kate Lawrence, Laura Barden (all Yr. 8) and Phoebe Ulrick (Yr.9) won the U/14 girls State Championship playing for the Hotshots Zone Team whilst Scarlett Morwood (Yr.10) won the U/15 State Championship playing for the Red Devils Zone Team. For the boys Andrew Maxwell & Nick Reilly were both members of the victorious Eastern Hotshots U13 team.

As well as being a team competition the championships are used to select state representative teams in the U13 & U15 age groups to compete in the national championships. There is no national championship in the U14 age group, however a state development squad is chosen.

Sophie Taylor (Yr. 7) has been selected for the U/13 girls Victorian State Team, Phoebe Ulrick, Laura Barden and Sophie Hodges were selected in the U14 girls State development squad, while Sebastian Mann (Yr. 8) and Liam Harper (Yr. 9) were selected in the U14 Boys State development squad.

Offsiders Match

Each year Carey is invited to play in a match against the Offsiders, a team which is made up of ex State, National and International players. This year the Boys 1st team has been invited to play at the State Hockey Centre at Parkville at 6.30 on Wednesday May 28th. There will be no training. A bus will leave Carey from Barkers Rd at 5pm and return to school at approximately 8.30pm.

Goalkeepers

Carey has secured the coaching services of George Bazeley the goalkeeper from the Victorian Viking. He will be at Hawthorn training from 3.30 – 5.00 on the following dates.

All keepers are expected to attend. If you are unable to meet this commitment please see your coach or Ms Magee.
